Casey Waterman

Casey Waterman, born and raised in rural New Hampshire, is a largely self-taught artist whose decade-long practice centers on the transformation of images through subtraction. Using photographs, drawings, and other forms of visual media, he creates cutouts that explore the tension between presence and absence—what is left behind and what is removed. These cut images are then reinterpreted as prints, paintings, sculptures, and large-scale murals. His process is deeply rooted in curiosity and influenced more by written works and lived experience than by other visual artists, allowing each piece to serve as both question and investigation.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Keene State College, Casey worked as a preparator in museums and galleries across New England and Miami. He also spent two years assisting Miami-based artist Enrique Martínez Celaya, gaining firsthand insight into the integrity and intentionality of being an artist. His studio in Little River, Miami, continues to be a site of personal exploration and creation. Casey’s work can be found in private collections along the eastern seaboard.
